The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant chassis flex as well as body deformation and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
