The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is especially evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
