The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can result in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
