The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly caused by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes the body to twist and bend, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Body flex while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The upper strut brace connects the mounting points at the front of the vehicle and helps increase body stiffness.
