The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads due to the driver’s driving style. This is particularly true when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when driving through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes major deformation and twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Body deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
