The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in considerable deformation and twisting of the bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the bodywork during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
