The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in high loads on the chassis, body flex and loss of tyre grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
