The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during high-speed cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
