The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, which results in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
