The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads due to driving conditions. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the body or chassis, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
