The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s mass is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant body flex and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Body deformation and flex while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
