The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of weight when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
