The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This results in significant chassis bending, as well as deformation and twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
