The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the car body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
During fast cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. The result is significant body twisting and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Body twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The reinforcement is designed to increase body stiffness and reduce twisting.
