The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in greater chassis or bodywork twisting and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
