The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of chassis mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
