The car’s chassis is the most heavily stressed part during fast driving, as loads are affected by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or sharp acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can result in significant deformation, twisting and bending of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
