The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest load during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to 3 times greater than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex, as well as body deformation and torsion, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
