The vehicle’s chassis is exposed to heavy loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can lead to significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
