A vehicle’s chassis is subjected to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, which results in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
