A car’s chassis is the part most exposed to stress while driving. This is particularly true when the body’s mass is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation, chassis and body flex, and consequently a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
