The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This results in greater bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting and body deformation during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
