The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
