The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress during driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, deformation and body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
