The vehicle chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to 3 times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex as well as body deformation and torsional twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
