The vehicle chassis is the part most exposed to loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in considerable chassis twisting, body deformation and torsional loads, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
