The chassis of a car is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly true when transferring the weight of the vehicle body during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or deformation and torsional loads on the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
