The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex, as well as body deformation and torsional twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
