The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
