The vehicle chassis is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sharp acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the vehicle chassis while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
