The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In certain situations, the transfer of mass through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
