The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to 3 times greater than the other. The result is significant chassis flex, deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
