The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s mass is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
