The car chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
