The vehicle chassis is one of the parts subjected to the greatest loads from the driver’s inputs. It is particularly stressed when the weight of the body is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can lead to substantial chassis twisting, or body deformation and torsion, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
