The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, deformation and body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
