The vehicle’s chassis or bodywork is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced when weight is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or intensive acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes severe chassis twisting or body deformation, which consequently causes the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the vehicle’s chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
