The vehicle chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads during driving. These loads are caused mainly by the transfer of body weight when driving quickly through corners, braking hard and accelerating.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This leads to significant chassis twisting or body deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation when driving through corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
