A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in heavy loads on the chassis, flexing and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Flexing and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
