The vehicle’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsional body twisting, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
