The car’s chassis is the component subjected to the greatest loads while driving. Particularly during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration, the transfer of body mass affects the chassis.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can cause significant bending and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
