The vehicle’s chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads during driving. These loads are generated primarily by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When weight is transferred in corners, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
