The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the weight of the body is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, transferring weight through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
