The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. The result is increased loads, chassis bending or twisting, and loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
