The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or body deformation and torsion, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
