The car’s chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This leads to significant chassis flex or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and flexing of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
