The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and chassis flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
