The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes pronounced bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
