The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This results in pronounced chassis twisting, body deformation and loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
