The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When mass is transferred through a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis twisting or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
